Guillermo Araoz (Salta, 1843 - Buenos Aires, 1914) was a military man and great geographical researcher. He studied the topography of his province, and interested in knowing the Chaco nature, he went into distant places. In 1868 he explored the shores of the Salado River, from Cuyo to Santa Fe, to later carry out an expedition to Bermejo under the auspices of the national government. As a result of that expedition, he published this book -a travel log-, where he highlighted the value of inland rivers as communication routes and irrigation sources. In full territorial advance of the Argentine state, based on his indications, forts were placed, and the telegraph was extended.

In 1878 he edited "News on the navigation of the Bermejo" and in 1884 "Navigation of the Bermejo River and trips to the Gran Chaco''.
