Ernesto Quesada (Buenos Aires, 1858 - 1934), was one of the most brilliant personalities of Argentine thought in the last quarter of the 19th century and the first of the 20th. Lawyer, writer, director of the National Library and member of the Deliberative Council of the City of Buenos Aires, Quesada was the first Argentine sociologist to be the holder and mentor of the first chair of this scientific discipline at the University of Buenos Aires, in 1898 .

In 1928, Ernesto Quesada donated his private library of some 80,000 volumes, giving rise to the Ibero-American Institute of Berlin. A part of it was lost during the Second World War.
