Isabelle —a French sailor and merchant— describes in meticulous detail the social and economic life of the time, focusing on the inhabitants of Buenos Aires and Montevideo, as well as Brazil. In its pages we find highly accurate reports referring to the governments of Rivadavia, Dorrego, Lavalle and Juan Manuel de Rosas. The author of it visited this region for the first time between 1830 and 1834. In his plans he had planned to visit it to document its flora and fauna, but the political instability that welcomed him prevented him from doing so. However, back in France, Isabelle wrote this exquisite testimonial that we now present in her prince edition. The truth is that in 1837 he returned to Montevideo where he knew how to carry out important scientific, journalistic and commercial work, in addition to working at the Consulate of his homeland.
