The work was written by the lieutenant of the French navy, Alcide Boucarut, and translated into Spanish by the captain of the frigate Miguel Lobo and the lieutenant Pedro Riudavetes, both Spanish. The earliest Manual on the navigation of the Río de la Plata. A second, enlarged edition is known.

In the history of the River Plate, ignorance of its hydrography caused numerous shipwrecks, so that this roadmap was of enormous practical value.
