THE “GAUCHISM”

Handle and scabbard with an iconographic journey on the life of the gaucho and his customs. Silver and gold. Measures. Blade length: 14.3 cm. Total length: 29 cm.

Tree brand blade, with the figure of the tree and in three lines, the following legend: HEINR BÖKER & CO - BAUMWERK / SOLINGEN - GERMANY -GERMANY / ARBOLITO - TREEBRAND. It has edge and back edge, smooth spine and faceted button. The "Arbolito" brand began its march in the second half of the 19th century and knew how to conquer the users of the Creole knife who adopted it as the favorite. But in World War II his factory in Solingen was destroyed and he needed several years to rebuild it, going through a back and forth path with brand registrations and investors. Finally, in 1983, one of them returned the use of the brand to Heinr. Boker Baumwerk GmbH from Solingen.

As for the knife itself, it is a faithful example of "gauchismo", a style of Buenos Aires Creole silverware that was developed

It was born in the second quarter of the 20th century, when the Creole culture acquired a new visualization, particularly rescued by the immigrants who arrived in the country. The goldsmith captured in this knife the repertoire of the most outstanding elements, such as the guitar, the knife and a revolver, and among the characters a seated civilian and another with a raised spear; and on the scabbard, a bucolic composition with the Chinese woman in the mortar, the gaucho playing the guitar and beyond that an animal with its head in the trough, and on the other side, the ranch, a cart pulled by oxen and a horseman on horseback. horse. “These designs -we wrote about it in El gaucho and his knife- can be seen chiselled directly on the silver sheet in which the piece was made, or carved in a gold plate applied on it”.
