Cities unite through art

Art does not stop, and in this feature its beauty and attraction are also affirmed. Days ago, two European cities were strung together through a concrete ring that, without prior notice, appeared on their streets. We refer to Lublin, the ninth city of Poland, and Vilnius, the capital of Lithuania.

Located 600 kilometers from each other, they now “dialogue” through Portal, an installation created by the Benediktas Gylys Foundation in Vilnius, which developed this kind of virtual bridges aimed at promoting the union of the planet, “without borders, prejudices or labels. ”. Both rings have cameras and a screen in the center of the concrete ring that transmits in real time; Those who are in front of one of these futuristic sculptures converse in their gestures and expressions with which, in the other, they stand and express emotions. The initiative already promises new ties between Vilnius and London, and Vilnius with Reykjavik, Iceland's capital.

We have seen it on television and in the cinema, and we have also dreamed of it: entering that ring in one city and going out in the other. The promoters of Portal express their intention to create a network that inspires unity, dialogue and empathy among all the inhabitants of our house, "a little spaceship" called Earth.
